Psota, V. - Jurečka, D.: The Selection of Varieties of Brewing Barley.

The objective selection of preferred varieties is necessary to make on the basis of all accessible information and with respect to prosperity of a grower. Nowadays the area distribution of varieties from the viewpoint of technological indicators is not performed. On the basis of agronomy traits obtained in CISTA (Central Institute for Supervising and Testing in Agriculture) it is however possible to perform the area distribution. The relationship between yield and quality is important, for maltster it is however more significant the relationship between yield of plump grain and quality. Fungoid disease, resistance and response of varieties to fungicide treatment should direct to differential using of fungicides and so even to increasing of rentability degree of growing. The early harvest and the period of after-harvest ripening shouldn't be ommited during selecting of varieties. Information necessary for the qualified selection of variety are reported in publications of CISTA and Research Institute of Brewing and Malting.
